Charles Messier documented M12 as a "nebula without stars" in 1764. Much larger telescopes were needed to resolve individual stars.

In contrast to most other objects M12 is approaching earth at a velocity for 16km/h. Don't worry, with an actual distance of about 15.000 lightyears this will take a moment.
